Biography |
Sendler, Ruth née Marcus - born 16 November 1909, presumably in Berlin, Germany, daughter of painter Otto Marcus and Elisabeth born Sendler. Ruth, a dancer, emigrated to London in July 2, 1934, joined the Royal Ballet, and played a role in the film The Red Shoes (1948).
A lady by the name of Ruth Sendler was registered with the Jewish Refugees Committee of World Jewish Relief but we do not know whether this is the same person you are seeking. The registration slip states that she was born in 1909 and became Ruth MARCUS (though we do not know whether this was by marriage or by change of name). Her profession is given as 'Dancer'. She arrived in Britain from Berlin, Germany on 2nd July, 1934 and left for France on 18th January, 1935. We do not know when she returned to England but on 5th November, 1943 she was living at 8, Sunderland Terrace, London, W.2.
This is all the information we have for her - there is no reference to the Jaffe family and we have no material such as documents or photos about her or her parents.
Yours sincerely,
Lilian Levy (Mrs.)
