  Biography	Erwin was the eldest son of Alfred and Vally (nee Reichmann) Japha. Alfred was a pediatrician. Erwin studied at the universities of Berlin, Germany and Freiburg and completed his own medical education at the University of London. He had immigrated to England in 1933 just weeks after the Reichstag fire. He married Eva Danielsohn in 1935, and eventually settled in Golders Green, where his family lived until immigrating to the United States in 1949. There he settled in Chicago, where he practiced medicine as a radiation oncologist, first at the Chicago Tumor Institute, and later at the Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was the Director of Radiation Therapy.
