The Gerson sisters and their father Emanuel Gerson left Vechta on June 15,1939, since the Nazi regime had destroyed their subsistence level. At first the family moved to Oldenburg. From there they all went to Hamburg, Rosel was already there in September 1939. Emanuel, Jutta, Lisa and her friend Hermann Silbiger went to Hamburg in April 1940, because of the expulsion of all jewish people from Oldenburg at that time.
