Biography submitted by his widow, Diane. In many people's view he had the scope and vision of a Nobel Prize winner (like his father, Georges). Belgium was too small a country for him. His writings are all at the Library of Congress. He had a planetarian mind and universal interests, connections and plans. He was too much in advance of his time for many people to understand him. Now, twelve years after his death, I daily read in the newspapers or hear on TV about things he thought and/or wrote about 50 years ago. He was constantly interviewed on radio & TV and wrote in all the major newspapers (Le Monde, The Times, Le Soir, etc.) A very successful lawyer he greatly contributed to changing and adding to the existing case-law. Fluent in French, English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian and Russian. He was involved in various capacities with the UN, EU, World Assembly of Youth, Belgian Congo and the Belgian Government. In addition, he was a member of various commissions and was active in the International and American Bar associations. Author of many articles on legal, political and general topics. |
