When Ruth Barnass reached school age, the attendance of Jewish children in “German” schools was already forbidden. She therefore participated in the private tuition arranged by the Jewish community and given by the Jewish teacher Heinz Junger. Her sister Eva, two years her senior, was also being taught here. In 1941, as Ruth finished her first year of schooling, all school instruction for Jewish children had to cease.
Ruth Barnass was eight years old when she was deported on 26th March 1942 together with her grandmother, her parents and her sister Eva. Via the assembly camp at Hanover-Ahlem and the transit camp of Travniki near Lublin she finally arrived at the Warsaw Ghetto. She is considered as missing there, and after the war, was declared deceased. [1] |
