Eva Barnass was in her first year at school when, shortly after the “Reichskristallancht”, Jewish children were forbidden to attend “German” schools. In Göttingen nine additional pupils were also affected by this prohibition. From January 1939 on, their private tuition was undertaken by Heinz Junger, a Jewish teacher. From Easter 1940 on, Eva Barnass’s younger sister also had to join the Jewish emergency school. In April 1941, all tuition of Jewish children had to cease.
On 26th March 1942, Eva Barnass, at the age of ten, was deported together with her grandmother, her parents and her little sister. Via the assembly camp at Hanover-Ahlem and the transit camp of Travniki near Lublin she was brought to the Warsaw Ghetto. She is considered as missing there, and after the war, was declared deceased.
