Holocaust Siegfried Behrens D. Phil. came to Fürth with his family in 1923. He was the last District Rabbi (Liberal). In the night of the Pogrom he was forced to tread on a Torah Scroll that was lying on the ground, to the great amusement of the populace.

In a circular dated 26th May 1941... the community was permitted to retain only the most indispensable workers, while the remaining employees were dismissed as from the first of June or July, or were made to retire, as also the communal Rabbi, Dr. Behrens. He was deported with his wife and his daughter Margot. On the 31.01.1956, Dr. Behrens was declared to have died at Izbica as of 31.12.1945.
A memorial inscription to him has been added on his mother's tombstone on the Neuen Friedhof (New Cemetery). The photographs and other personal items were handed over to the Jewish Museum in Fürth by the widow of Carl Graefenberg, who had previously been married to the surviving daughter, Rachel.
She was a handicraft teacher and in 1931, head teacher. In 1939 she tried unsuccessfully to immigrate to England.  [1
