II-141241 © McCord Museum. Belle Maud Goldsmith, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, married Clarence de Sola in 1901. She played an active role in the community, leading the Friendly League of Jewish Women, a precursor to the YWHA that played an early role in integrating Jewish immigrant women into Canadian society in the early 1900s. She was also integral in helping launch the career of famous opera singer, Pauline Donalda. |
