She is registered in Mannheim as from 22 July 1886, as having come from Frankfurt. Early addresses as L 12, 5 a then M 2,11, then she and her husband owned the large building at L 13,18 and lived there until 15 Jan 1938. Dora has often wondered what the family lived on once the father had died, it seems it must have been the rent from the other flats in the building.
Sophie is registered as from 20 February 1938 in the hospital in Mannheim in Beeethovenstr. 8, then she is registered with her sister in the Richard-Wagner-Str. 53. As from 23 October 1940 her address is the Jewish hospital in Collinistr. 53 (Note: at that time, this hospital also had an old people's home integrated). After this was closed down/confiscated the old Jewish people were transferred to the house in B7,3 which had been left to the Jewish community by banker Gustav Würzweiler on his emigration.
32 elderly Jews were deported from this house in April 1942, 69 more on 21 August 1942, one of these must have been Sophie, also 7 suicides are registered in this house between 19 and 22 August 1942. Further deportations took place later. This house was the only Jewish institution left in Mannheim and a meeting place for all remaining Jews of any age until its confiscation around New Year 1943.
