Biography |
Became a wealthy man in the linen business
Albert Jaffe, the second son of Isaac, owned one of the most extensive
collections of miniature paintings in the world. I own an illustrated
catalog of this collection. The collection was loaned to a museum, and
I believe disappeared during World War I. It would be interesting to
learn where the miniature paintings ended up. We also have a memoir
written by Albert, with a pseudonym, recounting among other things his
many affairs.
The Albert Jaffe memoir is of ordinary book size, and accordingly
cannot be easily copied or faxed. It is not in my "Jaffe File" box
and as mentioned earlier I believe is presently in the hands of
either my brother or my sister. But as it happens I think there is rather
little of family interest, and since he used a non-Jewish name
as a pseudonym he seems to have sought to downplay his Jewish identity
(his wife Clara, incidentally, was not Jewish).
If it was of interest to you I suppose it would be possible to zerox and transmit by fax the several pages of introduction Albert Jaffe wrote for the Miniature Art collection catalog.
I believe his nephew George - the physicist who worked with Marie
Curie early in his career, and whom I met in his old age - was
Albert's executor. [1] |
