    Dov Shalgi was born in Berlin, Germany to Marta and Sally Shneeman. After him, Ilse and Reni. The family was in good financial conditions. They had a piano. Dov and his father played the piano. Dov used to tell about the various celebrations at home with musical background. The brothers of his father signing and celebrating the Jewish holidays together. Also some general festivals like Sylvester.

    Dov got a private education for the fiurst years. He studied three languages in high school and got an excellent Matriculation certificate. Especially in Languages, Music and Sports. He loved his schooldays.. He played the piano at the school end of year celebration.

    Dov studied music atthe Academy of Music. He always remembered those days with love. He also was very active as a counselor in the Jewish youth movement. There he met his future wife, Zahava. He studied Judaism, Church and Synagogue Music at the “Hochschule fuer die Wissenschaft des Judentums” in Berlin, Germany. He became competent in playing the organ and conducting.

    While the Nazis were already looking for him, he escaped to England, to the Kitchener Camp for academic scholars. After one year, he had the opportunity to reach Israel where he attended the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. But he preferred to try his luck in a Kibbutz, Kfar Giladi.

    From the beginning, he worked in agriculture, it was not easy. In the evenings, he was the choir conductor, cultural organizer, editor of the kibbutz paper and manager of the volunteers. He also gave lectures to tourists and was a receptionshipin the hotel.

    He was sent with his family for two years to New York as a shaliah. he gave lectures, taught Hebrew in the Hillel organization, synagogues and camps.

    His children, Zimri, Elisha and Aviva grew up in the Kibbutz. Until his last days. he was active in cultural matters, worked for several years in the arcgives of the kibbutz.. During the last years, he stopped playing the piano and going to concerts and he was sorry about it.  [1
