Biography |
Kathleen was educated in London. In May 1940 she and her children went to Montreal. In March 1941 she embarked from New York on an Egyptian “Neutral!” ship which was shell and captured by the raider “Atlantis” in the S. Atlantic. Kathleen was wounded but with the other passengers picked up by the Atlantis (fearing another Lusitania inicident). Passengers were landed in France. She was interned in the Leibenau internment camp and eventually released November 1942 via Turkey to Palestine. From there she went to Cairo and flew down to S. Africa to meet her husband. She was able to hide her Jewish heritage though challenged. This was partly because she claimed that her brother, Sydney Harvey, was her father and because her children had blond hair and blue eyes and the publicity given in the US regarding the Zamzam passengers [1] |
