Worked in the Canadian warehouse in Auschwitz.. She met a cousin in Auschwitz who managed to get her to also work in the warehouse, hence she survived.
The belongings of those gassed were confiscated and sorted in the "Kanada" (Canada) warehouse for shipment back to Germany. Canada symbolized wealth to the prisoners.

They called it the Canada warehouse. In Auschwitz, the warehouses where pots, pans, clothes and shoes were kept were called Canada I and Canada II by the inmates of Auschwitz.
“They called it that because Canada was the land of plenty, said Ted Bolgar, a Hungarian Jew who survived Auschwitz and four other concentration camps during the year he spent in Nazi captivity.
The warehouses have now been destroyed, but they are marked in maps of the camp.
Jacob and Frieda returned to Guta separately, hoping to find each other. They had hidden jewellery, belongings before the war. On their return they found almost everything. [1, 2, 3] |
