Although my father buried in the military section of the Nachlat Yizchak Cemetery, he was never a soldier. A British Subject (naturalized in Singapore), he worked as paymaster in the British military camp Sarafand. He was accidentally killed by a British soldier while on the job. —————-
Son of Rivka and Lipa, was born on December 7, 1909 in Bialystok, Poland (then part of the Russian Empire). He studied in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, and in 1929 moved to Singapore, where he worked in a commercial firm founded by his family members. He immigrated to Palestine on September 16, 1935, settling in Tel Aviv. At first, he worked in his father’s wholesale business, later becoming a contractor for the British military. On December 11, 1947, he was traveling in an official car accompanied by a military guard to the Sarafand army base, where he was to disburse the workers’ payroll. As the car was traveling in Ha’Aliya Street in Tel Aviv, one of the English guard soldiers shot into the vehicle, fatally wounding Benjamin. He died of his wounds that evening and was buried in Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife and a daughter.
On September 23, 1954, his remains were transferred to the military section of the cemetery. [1] |
